We aspire to transform people's sweetener consumption patterns from sulphur bleached white sugar or any other chemically loaded sweeteners to our Purest Organic Jaggery!
Let me introduce myself. I am Preeti Shinde, the founder of Gudworld. In all the 22 years of my life, I have had the joy of leading a wonderful farm life, surrounded by lush green crops, animals, and the love of people working on our farms. I come from a family with a 40-year long legacy in jaggery production. Some of my fondest childhood memories include visiting our factory and watching in awe as kilo after kilo of jaggery would be loaded into trucks and sent off to be sold.
However, only when I began to seriously think about joining our family business did I realize that this amazing produce is quite underused. I mean, how often do we really use jaggery in the foods that we make? It is healthy, it tastes great, and can be used in place of sugar in almost everything from baking, making sweets to even beverages. To get my answers, I did a little ‘analysis’ of the kitchen in my own home. Even though we shipped out 30000-40000 kilos of jaggery every day, I was surprised to see that we ourselves rarely used it.
The reason for this was quite apparent. Jaggery was difficult to use. Using it meant spending hours breaking huge blocks into smaller pieces or manually powdering it.
I clearly remember my daadi sitting down with jaggery blocks and spending almost an entire afternoon just pounding away at it till we had enough pieces to use in our cooking.
Would I take all this trouble? Maybe not. And, this would probably mean that generation after generation, the importance of jaggery would just reduce. I was determined not to let that happen because I have personally experienced the magical effect of this simple product on my health. In my younger days, I remember falling sick very often. The only thing that helped me increase my immunity was increasing my jaggery intake over sugar and pairing it with other superfoods. And, I wanted as many people as possible to experience the various benefits of jaggery.
That is how the idea for Gudworld was born.
You see, my father knows every little detail of jaggery making. And, I discussed the idea of producing smaller cubes of jaggery with him. Combining his knowledge and modern technology, we started researching the possibilities. Finally, the solution came in the form of developing an in-house technology that could produce 5g and 10g cubes of jaggery. For me, this was a breakthrough into a whole new world of opportunities. I could see the humble jaggery becoming a brand.
I now imagine a world where even urban homes will readily use jaggery. Health benefits aside, this will even change the lives of all our farmers. It is quite simple. The more jaggery we sell, the more Organic Sugarcane we will buy from the farmers. Our plan also includes teaching farmers different organic farming techniques and equipping them with all the knowledge that they need to start progressing. This is the beginning of a “Gud-World” in every way. And I am excited to share this journey with all of you.
